چکیده

This research presents the survey, analysis, comparisons and implementation of the most threatening new kind of cryptographic attacks known as fault attacks or implementation attacks against Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) algorithm. AES algorithm is used in various applications and is considered the most secure against conventional cryptanalytic attacks which exploits the algebraic or mathematical weaknesses in the crypto-systems. Fault attacks are based on interrupting the execution of the algorithm in such a way that it produces faulty cipher output which can be analysed to break the algorithm. This research survey various fault attacks and provide implementation of three of them in detail for demonstration purposes. It mapped the complex mathematical analysis into programming algorithms for ease of implementation. At the end it compares various types of attacks based on our devised criteria of efficiency, flexibility and usability of the attack methods.

Enhanced Flush+Reload Attack on AES

In cloud computing, multiple users can share the same physical machine that can potentially leak secret information, in particular when the memory de-duplication is enabled. Flush+Reload attack is a cache-based attack that makes use of resource sharing. T-table implementation of AES is commonly used in the crypto libraries like OpenSSL. Several Flush+Reload attacks on T-table implementat...

Fault Based Cryptanalysis of the Advanced Encryption Standard (AES)

In this paper we describe several fault attacks on the Advanced Encryption Standard (AES). First, using optical fault induction attacks as recently publicly presented by Skorobogatov and Anderson [SA], we present an implementation independent fault attack on AES. This attack is able to determine the complete 128-bit secret key of a sealed tamper-proof smartcard by generating 128 faulty cipher t...

Implementation of Combinational Logic S-Box and Its Fault Detection for Advanced Encryption Standard Algorithm

Fault attacks are going on increasing with high data transfers so powerful and efficient cryptanalysis techniques are required to reduce the fault attacks. Such a technique is Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) algorithm. These attacks are based on injecting faults into the structure of the AES to obtain the confidential information. To protect the AES implementation against these attacks, a nu...

Differential Power Analysis: A Serious Threat to FPGA Security

Differential Power Analysis (DPA) implies measuring the supply current of a cipher-circuit in an attempt to uncover part of a cipher key. Cryptographic security gets compromised if the current waveforms obtained correlate with those from a hypothetical power model of the circuit. As FPGAs are becoming integral parts of embedded systems and increasingly popular for cryptographic applications and...

An Information Theoretic Perspective on the Differential Fault Analysis against AES

Differential Fault Analysis against AES has been actively studied these years. Based on similar assumptions of the fault injection, different DFA attacks against AES have been proposed. However, it is difficult to understand how different attack results are obtained for the same fault injection. It is also difficult to understand the relationship between similar assumptions of fault injection a...
